At Homerswood Primary and Nursery School, we pride ourselves on being a warm, welcoming and family-friendly school. Since opening our doors in April 1963, we’ve built a strong reputation for providing a nurturing environment where children love to learn and grow.

Nestled in beautiful surroundings on the northern edge of Welwyn Garden City, Homerswood offers a calm, spacious setting for children to thrive. We are a one-form entry school with eight classes, including our vibrant Nursery, and we can accommodate up to 236 pupils from ages 3 to 11.

For Reception through to Year 6, our school day runs from 8:50am to 3:20pm, with a gentle “soft start” allowing children to arrive between 8:35 and 8:50am to ease into their day. The children have a 15-minute break and an hour for lunch. This equates to 32.5hours.

Our nursery is open each morning from 8:45 to 11:45am at present. Please watch this space for updates on our nursery expansion to be in place for January 2026.

We also know how important flexibility is for modern families. That’s why we offer wraparound care through our Breakfast and After-School Clubs, running from 7:30am to 6:00pm. 

Inside our school, you’ll find bright, airy classrooms with a cloakroom and two toilets in each, a large multi-use hall, and plenty of outdoor space to explore; including two playgrounds, two woodland areas, and a large playing field. We have a chromebook for each child in the classrooms for the children to access their learning in another way and conduct research when they need. Our facilities are designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and active learning every day.

At Homerswood, we’re more than just a school, we are a close-knit community. We offer a rich programme of extracurricular clubs and special events, including our popular family groups like FUDGE (Fathers, Uncles, Dads, Grandads, etc.) and GLAM (Grandmas, Ladies, Aunts, Mothers). We work closely with the Friends of Homerswood (FOH) who arrange many successful events throughout the year to raise funds for the children.
