Art and Design
Impact Statement Spring 2025
The Art curriculum continues to be successfully implemented across KS1 and KS2 with pupils consolidating a range of Art skills. These skills continue to include five elements: making skills, generating ideas, formal elements, knowledge of artists and evaluating. These elements have been successfully seen in the Spring Terms topics which include, Sculpture, Painting and Mixed Media, Craft and Design (creating Ancient Egyptian Scrolls), Painting whilst exploring light and dark, Interactive Installations and Drawing. They have also been analysing famous artists work, including, Louise Bourgeois and Romare Bearden.
As we move forward into the final term and into the next academic year, the Children will continue to record their work within a sketch book but this will feature more reflection and multiple attempts at techniques as has been encouraged in assemblies and discussed in staff development meetings.
Artist of the Week gives children a larger picture of Art represented across a range of cultures, backgrounds and periods of history. This raises pupils’ cultural capital within Art and Design and might inspire them to create future artwork or visit Art Galleries beyond school.
Art Club has continued to be popular across the school. It has now been delivered to both KS1 and KS2 and the students have enjoyed creating pieces using a variety of mediums.

Next Steps:
- Begin to develop a list of resources for each unit including equipment and consumables. These should then be ordered and an inventory created so these can be maintained.
- Develop the way Art and Design progression is recorded and assessed. -Develop consistent use of key vocabulary.
- Provide opportunities for CPD for teachers/teaching staff.
Impact Statement Autumn 2024
We have started the new school year with another successful start using the Kapow scheme. The scheme continues to foster creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking. The scheme helps students to develop their artistic skills as they progress through the school. Kapow also allows pupils to discuss and compare diverse artists and see if they can create Art inspired by these artists. This helps the children to learn about unfamiliar cultures and encourages critical thinking and debate, whilst also ensuring mutual respect. This shows the Kapow Scheme is also well aligned with the British Values.
Pupil voice has identified children are enjoying Art and that they were able to explain how they develop their artistic skills throughout the unit, leading to one final piece of artwork.
During this new school year, we have started a new Art club held after school. The club has included KS2 pupils only this first term with the view of changing it to EYFS and KS1 next term. The club has been an opportunity for the students to further apply their artistic skills they have been learning in their lessons.
Our Artist of the week has also developed further this term. Every Thursday Singing Assembly, the Art leaders introduce the Artist of the Week. These have been chosen by the subject leader to ensure the students are exposed to a diverse range of artists. The students are then given the opportunity to critique the artwork. Art leaders have also been given the opportunity to design the schools new house team logos based on the four elements.
We have also introduced an Aspirational Art book for each class to move up the school with. This book is there to showcase the artwork each class produces in a unit that other children should aspire to produce.

Next Steps:
Pupil voice for Spring Term: Have students retained any of the Artists of the Week?
Book Looks to check whether sketchbooks are still being used effectively with annotations.
Children to share Aspirational Art within Sharing Assemblies and Parent Book Looks.
