Our Vision

The Homerswood Vision

To create a learning pathway for all that inspires curiosity and develops resilience, promotes discovery, confidence, independence and happy learners for life. A growing environment that thrives on community spirit and partnership between pupils, families, staff and governors.

Homerswood - A pathway to grow, be curious and discover.

Headteacher Welcome

Welcome to Homerswood Primary and Nursery School.  When choosing a new school for your child, we understand how important it is for families to visit and gauge the ‘feel’ of a setting.  We pride ourselves on giving families the time to explore the settings their child may be in and allowing you to ask any questions that you have.

Our website is comprehensive and supportive to all parents at Homerswood and as such you will find all the information you need to make an informed decision about this next important part of your child’s educational journey.  Please take the time to look around the web pages.  We aim to ensure that you get the sense of the aspirations we have for pupils, but also the creative curriculum we deliver to inspire and motivate pupils.

Homerswood Primary and Nursery School intake comes from the immediate Knightsfield and AL8 area.  It is a small community school that has two important features of which we are proud:  The enrichment that we provide through our community links and the inclusive nature of our provision.  The children who attend experience high quality teaching which is personalised to meet the needs of a range of different pupils.  They learn about the world around them in ‘real’ ways, exploring through outdoor play, pupil-led activities and firm boundaries.  Well-being is at the heart of our school.

Parents and carers are encouraged to be involved in their child’s education at all stages and are supported by professional and supportive staff.  We enjoy getting to know our families and work closely with them to support their child’s learning journey.

At Homerswood, we understand that all children are unique and this is supported through ‘curiosity with kindness’; a concept explored with the whole school community.  We use this to help understand our own behaviours, the behaviours of others and how this impacts on the wider world we live in.

From January 2021, we launched a brand new curriculum; A Learning Journey.    This journey begins by entering ‘A pathway to grow, be curious and discover’.  As your child journeys with us from Early Years to Year 6 their learning will follow many consistent ‘Tracks’ such as outdoor learning, debate, use of technology, quality text exposure.  They will also place footprints down throughout such as riding a horse, crossing a road safely, learning CPR and spending time away from their family.  This curriculum is designed to inspire and excite our pupils and help them see ‘real’ links to the world they live in.  By the end of the journey we aim to have confident, resilient, articulate pupils who are ready to move to secondary schooling.

Our curriculum is designed to be pupil led.  There are many opportunities for pupils to lead across the school.  Pupils Leaders and House Captains all support the work of the school.  Pupils are also involved in curriculum development, the choices of after-school and lunchtime clubs.

The use of technology has been key to delivery of our curriculum this year and as a school we were already ready for such innovation.  We are a ‘Google’ school and use the suite of google apps to deliver lessons.  Almost all our classrooms have a set of 30 Chrome Books which means children have access to these at any point when they are learning. Each classroom has a Smart TV to support delivery of lessons.

All in all, Homerswood Primary and Nursery School is a wonderful place to learn and grow.  Please do take the time to look through the class pages.  Most importantly visit the ‘Why we feel you should choose Homerswood’ page for up to date survey results and the thoughts of those who attend already.

Looking forward to welcoming you to Homerswood soon.
