Welcome back Year 5!
Year 5 have settled back into school life amazingly.
We have been talking a lot about life since school closures, and reflecting on life now. We have made a time capsule to remember the start to this extraordinary school year.
The Year 5 teaching team consists of Mrs Reeve, Mrs McHutchison and Mrs Robinson.
This term, we are focusing on English, Maths, and topic work of Welwyn Garden City, Black History, Heroes and Christmas. The topic work will incorporate, history, geography, art, RE and DT topics. We will also have a forest school session, music lesson, visits to the school library and 2 PE sessions a week.
Welcome Back to Summer Term Year 5!
The past 2 weeks have flown by. We have been working so hard in all lessons, implementing the new pathways curriculum in person rather than online.
We have been learning about Gravity in Science and why it is important. We have conducted several experiments with different shaped balls to see which ones fall to the ground fastest.
Learning in Year 5 from the past 2 weeks (w.b. 08.03.2021 and 15.03.2021)
Gosh! What a couple of weeks!
I am so proud of Year 5, and how they have returned to school.
We have been continuing our 15 Big Writes using Pobble 365 daily pictures and working hard to edit our own work using the Year 5 writing gold standards.
We have finished our learning sequences in Maths, that have included Roman Numerals, Angles (measuring, ordering and drawing) and also Reflection + Translation.
We have completed many science lessons in British Science Week. We have made our own rainbows using kitchen towel, felt pens, water and cups. Take a look at the Science curriculum page for photos!

It was so lovely to meet with some of the parents today virtually!
I spoke with some of these parents about the recommended reading list for year 5. Here is the link!

Welcome back to a new week, starting with our Harvest Festival at St.Johns Church this afternoon. We have looked at the artist Arcimboldo and created self portraits using autumnal fruits and vegetables.
Spellings this week are on Google Classroom (under spelling tab) and will be checked on Friday morning.
In English, we are looking at writing a report about frogs in the style of David Attenborough. We will also be forming a debate whether it was the frogs or lily pads flying in our class book- Tuesday by David Weisner.
In Maths, we have moved onto a new learning sequence which includes looking at tenths and hundreths.
Also, in science we are continuing with our topic of science; naming and ordering the planets in our solar system. In topics we are continuing to look at WGC before moving onto Black History next week.
w.b. 21.09.2020
This week we are looking at place value including numbers up to a million, and rounding numbers to the nearest 10,100,1000 and 10,000! We are working hard at consolidating this knowledge.
In English, we are continuing to use the text Tuesday by David Weisner to support our learning. We are planning and writing poems around the book, and also forming a debate about whether the frogs or lily pads are flying.
We are also starting our science topic of Earth and Space, by looking at the order of the planets and ways we can remember them. We are also going to create a fact file around one of the planets.
In PE we have started to play small games, and are going to ensure the rules of hockey are being followed throughout the game!
