You have all done a great job settling into Year 1. Well done!

I will keep this page updated with all the amazing work we do in Year 1.

In Geography, the children have learnt about the migration patterns of swallows. Here is the display of some of their work.

Year 1 loved hearing all about Homerswood’s Cultural Diversity today. Thank you to everyone who shared some of their family traditions today.

We didn’t let the weather get in the way of our coronation picnic!

In Maths we have been learning about different units of measure. Today we were comparing the weights of different objects.

Thank you to my amazing group of gardeners for helping me clear out the weeds in our garden today!

In Geography, we learned about Emperor Penguins in Antarctica. Here we are practicing our big penguin huddle!

Year 1 really enjoyed their tennis lesson with Gosling Tennis Club.

In Science, we have been creating houses that can withstand wind to save our pigs from the big bad wolf. Next week we will be adding a roof to our houses. The roof will have to be waterproof!

During morning work, the children have been trying so hard to complete a puzzle before assembly starts. Today they finally achieved it by working as a team!

Year 1 Loved their trip to the theatre to watch ‘Tales from Acorn Wood’. We can now tick off one of our footsteps for the year too!

Our song of the day today was YMCA. The children lived learning the dance moves during their mid morning movement break.

In Geography, we recreated a coastal landscape using mixed media. This included sculptures to emulate the cliffs.

Year 1 had a very rainy walk to the library this week. They loved doing the scavenger hunt and finding out all about the amazing books they can borrow. Thank you to all the amazing parent helpers for walking with us in the rain!

Year 1 started their sequence on ball skills - we looked at different ways of dribbling a ball with our hands, keeping it under control when we roll it, bounce it and catch it.

Merry Christmas Everyone! This week we have acted out scenes in the nativity story, played lots of party games and made some fantastic Christmas creations.

The children have been experimenting with different materials to make their own musical instruments in science.

Year 1 did a great job decorating the class Christmas trees!

Year 1 loved eating popcorn and cheering England on in the World Cup as their class treat for winning highest attendance.

Year 1 were looking at artefacts from a local museum in their history lesson this week. They had some very interesting suggestions for what they might have been used for.

In our English lessons we have been following instructions from Gruffalo Crumble and Other Recipes. Today we made Fox’s Sandwiches.

In Science, we had a great time drawing our organs and bones onto our aprons.

In PE we have been working on our team building skills.

In maths we have been learning about position and direction where we have practiced our left and right turns.
