At Homerswood Primary and Nursery School, we believe that physical education is fundamental to children’s learning and well-being. We aim to ensure that the physical education curriculum is inspiring and accessible to all children. We have recently launched our 'Pathway Curriculum' and currently follow the scheme of work 'Get Set 4 PE' to support our teaching, subject knowledge and assessment; allowing us to continually deliver high quality Physical Education. This scheme of work is in accordance with the current National Curriculum guidelines and is adapted to suit the individual needs of children. Please view our 'Curriculum - Sports and PE' page for more information about our PE curriculum.
We use our Sports Premium effectively to enhance the sporting opportunities that we are able to give our children as well as ensure that our staff are able to teach effective lessons based on solid subject knowledge. For example, all teachers have recently carried out online CPD in various areas of PE. In addition, a number of our PE lessons are also taught by 'Premier Sports' who deliver high quality lessons to different year groups across the year. Further details and more information on how we spend this funding can be viewed on our Sports Premium page.
We are fortunate to have a school sports partnership with Monks Walk where young leaders from the school come in to teach our pupils a wide range of sports and activities. Through this partnership, our children are also regularly encouraged, and given the opportunity to take part in inter- school competitions, events and festivals within our local area. We also provide many after school, extra-curricular activities and clubs throughout the year. Alongside this, they also provide special training and inset days for our staff.

Welcome to our Virtual Sports Week!
Here at Homerswood, we are not going to let a pandemic stop us from having our annual sports day! We do however, need to make sure we are being sensible and safe so we are going to have a virtual sports week instead! Our virtual sports week will be jam packed full of fun challenges for you and your families to complete across the whole week! It will take place on Monday 6th July until Friday 10th.
You will have a set of 18 different challenges to complete which will be uploaded on to our website on Monday 6th July (please see below) – I will also post a link to this on Facebook on Monday morning too. For each challenge you complete, you will be awarded 5 points for your house team. Your class teacher will send out details of your child’s house team prior to Virtual Sports Week. Try to complete as many challenges as you can, in any order that you wish. The more you complete, the more points you will score for your house team! It does not matter how many laps you complete or how quickly or slowly you complete it, you will still be awarded 5 points for attempting each challenge. You must send a video or photograph (photos will be easier) of you completing the challenge on your Google Classroom account (Year 2 to 6) or usual year group email to your teachers if you are in Nursery, Reception or Year 1. You will only be awarded your 5 points if you do this!
Certificates will be awarded for your participation! Certificates will be –
Bronze – 1 challenge completed
Silver – 2 to 10 challenges completed
Gold – 10 or more challenges completed
You won’t be alone in completing these challenges! We are going to be posting ‘Beat the Staff’ videos and pictures on Facebook throughout the week so keep your eyes peeled. See if you and your families can beat them!
You have until 12pm on Friday 10th to get your videos and photographs in for the challenges you complete. Scores will be added up and announced by the end of the day on Friday!
Will your house team win? Good luck and most importantly, have lots of fun!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Penny
Football Fixtures
Match report from Mr Scully - Yesterday, our football team played in a tournament at Monks Walk. We came up against a familiar rival in Brookmans Park School, always a tough match. We have been working on teamwork and communication in training and this has shown in our football recently. Yesterday, Homerswood put on their best display which led to them winning the match 1-0! We are very proud of their hard work! Well done team!
We hold the Sainsbury's School Games Bronze Award. This award recognizes the great work that the school has completed in order to improve the PE and Sports provision. What an achievement! Many thanks to our PE and Sports leader, Mrs Bennett who wrote the application and organizes the sports events with the teachers.
FA Girls Football Festival
Thursday 2nd July
Ten girls from Year 3 and 4 attended a fantastic football festival at Monks Walk today to celebrate the Women's Football World Cup and to encourage girls to participate in football. They had an amazing time and even came home with a goodie bag!
District Sports
10th June
Children from Year 3 to Year 6 competed in the annual District Athletics event at Gosling this afternoon. They took part in a range of track and field events and were a credit to Homerswood with their attitude and support for each other.
Premier Sports Athletics Sessions

Welwyn and Hatfield Schools Football Tournament
Wednesday 25th March
Our Year 5 and 6 girls and boys football teams attended the tournament on Wednesday at Monks Walk and were a credit to the school as always. Although they didn't come out as winners of their groups, they gave fantastic performances showing high level of skill and team work. A really enjoyable afternoon despite the results.
