the year.
Welcome to Reception.
Welcome to Reception. We are all very happy four and five year olds who have settled into school very quickly and are loving learning through play. We have lots of fun with our teachers Mrs Manly, Mrs Henry, Mrs Harrison, Miss Watts and Mrs Wright. We have been very busy learning how to play together, following our classroom routines. We are also getting to know all the different areas within our indoor and outdoor classroom.
We find it easier to learn through exciting topics. This term we are thinking about “Ourselves” and “Light”. Our teachers are very proud of us because we are planning our own learning and asking so many interesting and thoughtful questions.
Every morning we come into school keen and eager to learn and are soon very busy with lots of different activities. Every day we have a phonics lesson where we are learning the sounds and letter names of the alphabet. We often play games and sing songs to help us with our reading and writing. We also are very busy recognising numbers, learning the names of shapes and how to make exciting repeating patterns.
Reception are very lucky to have a lovely big outdoor area where we love to climb, explore and play with balls, ropes and balancing equipment. You are always very welcome to come and visit us and we will show you how happy we are at Homerswood School.
Below we will share our exciting news, photographs and our learning, so please keep checking this web page to find out what we have been doing.
Dear Parents/Carers,
There is a new free app for families in Hertfordshire called 50 Things to do before you’re five. It’s full of ideas for activities and experiences that are free or low cost (under £20 for a family of 4) and encourages communication and language, being active and trying new things. Many experiences are outdoors and open ended so the whole family can take part! The intention is to improve outcomes for younger children and the app is designed to support families and focus on developing early language skills.
The app also offers the ability to build a digital memory bank of your child's activities and special memories, these memories can be shared with your class teacher and included in your child's learning journey.
For more details, please find attached a guide to downloading the app or visit www.50thingstodo.org
50 Things To Do Before You're Five | Welcome 50 Things To Do aims to provide inspiration for parents and carers to connect with children through a range of activities, all designed to have a positive impact on learning and health. www.50thingstodo.org |
